How To Improve Rankings – Direct From Google 17 Mar 2019 1:14 AM (6 years ago)

I’m sure you knew already that Google already has a wealth of comprehensive advice on how to improve things, but what do you do when you can’t get your webpages to the top of page 1?  What if you once held page 1 rankings but now they average on page 5?

Look below, what you may see when you do a search for your target keyword

how to improve rankings

At the bottom there is a little text link.  When you click on that it gives you a couple of paragraphs of where to start.

I will get to both now.

Don’t worry if you are not seeing the above image…  you can still access the same steps by going directly to the links below.

Please let me know if any of these links are no longer valid.

Step 1:

Inside your performance section, you will see a graph of your website traffic.  Click on “new”, then “page” from the drop down menu.

filtering search date by a specific page

Type in part of the url of the specific web page you are looking at stats for.  So if your webpage is http://yourwebsite.com/best-blue-widgets-for-x/  then in here you would type “best-blue-widgets-for-x/”  (without the speech/quote marks).

Then hit the apply button.

You will then see a traffic graph, and further down the page you will see a list of search queries this page is ranking for.

overall stats by page

On the right you can see traffic for each search term.

Now “sort” the impressions column biggest to smallest.

Is it what you expected?  Are you actually  getting the most traffic for the keyword you are trying to target?

If so, great, you’re doing everything right, if not you need to look at ways of turning this around.

Thankfully Google gives you these tips.

Just hit the back button a few times until you land on the Google search page where you did your search  and clicked on “see ways to improve”.

Step 2:

Number 2 in the list takes you to a specific page in Google (please let me know if this link is no longer working)

In here are a few pointers that will put you on the right path.

Google is getting smart, so why not just be the good guy and do things right..

Surely you want a long term business anyway?

If you want to know how to set your blog posts up properly to work in conjunction with this, please visit my page on writing the best blog post.  This leaves no stons unturned and analysises a web page so you can write blog posts that convert.

So… now you have this data, what do you do with it?

Start with the “updating content” if it’s not been done for at least a month.

Before you go this route ask yourself, is this content that NEEDS updating?

If your page is about a list of the 10 best things… then sure, over time this list will change.  New products come on to the market

If your page is about “why does my RV backfire, then quite simply this content will hardly ever need updating because the facts will be the same for years to come… unless things change in the industry down the line.. new engines are made etc etc.. who knows…

Read this:  Neil Patel has the perfect write up on this topic, so I might as well hand this part over to him.

Attracting links to your website:

How to do link builiding properly:

How to do link building wrong

This day and age Google is smarter than ever… so below are things avoid unless you want your website to crash and burn.

So, by now you should be able to figure out that there is no point in trying to beat Google… eventually they will find out and it will be game over!

I just disabled Google AMP 1 Mar 2019 9:24 PM (6 years ago)

Google AMP – Accelerated Mobile Pages – why I have taken it off.

Having done all I can for one of my websites, I’ve spent hundreds over the last few years doing whatever it took to get the site to a peak condition.  Any site speed improvements were made and kept on top of.  Better plugins were swapped out and I also implemented Google AMP on to my site.

Prior to the Google AMP installation my site had previously been at a record high but had started to dip a bit in January 2018.  April 2018 I implemented Google AMP.

heavy workload

Since then my rankings continued to decline on this particular site in question.

Yes, this may not be down to the AMP issue, as the rankings had dropped already and continued down.. but at the same time, implementing AMP didn’t have any positive effects either!

The hope was that by implementing AMP, I could have seen rankings increases, traffic increases and more income.. but no..  that certainly was NOT the case.

Google clearly want the best user experience for it’s searchers.. I underestand that.

But when you have AMP you end up with two versions of a web page.  A beautiful well formatted and designed website, and then the AMP version that starts out quite ugly and stripped back (and requires more setup and work to get it looking nice).  When your time is limited it’s not great to have to spend time on something that’s not improving conversions, or may not even be beneficial (for now).

Not only that but not every plugin wants to play happily with AMP, so you find stretched images on table plugins and so on.

I persevered with the AMP plugin for a year (and paid $60 a month for support to ensure my site stayed AMP error free).

If you don’t get support then you will notice a swathe of Google errors showing up in your search console and they need fixing..

Today I have had enough and have just followed the following tips from Gulsham Kumar on how to safely remove AMP  (it’s not enought to just remove the plugin as this will throw up 404 errors..!)

Anyway, I have literally just done this so will update in the future how this has gone.

Why have AMP in the first place?

Well with AMP offering super fast loading times, it gives an almost instant load time for mobile users who visit the AMP version of your web page.

I can understand the thinking behind all of that…  but the truth is, your workload will be increased as you’ll need to make sure your AMP versions also look good.. as the stock versions don’t.  While there are templates, I personally don’t see the point in an average stay at home blogger having to maintain essentially 2 versions of a website.

Especially if there are no valid gains to be had.  Especially as I’ve been running it for over  ayear now (along with paying under $60 a month for AMP support, which I didnt mind if it meant positive results).  The AMP guys at AMP for WP would fix any AMP issues keeping Google happy with the AMP version of your website.

Sound good?  I certainly thought so.

After all, if you’re running a real business you do have to keep it right and do whatever is needed.

Is AMP showing up for search queries?

Well.. yes… and no…

If you run a news website and want your site to show up on the latest news carousel then AMP is certainly a very much needed thing to stay there… but… for the average blogger who isn’t reliant on riding the latest trends daily using AMP may just not be needed.

I performed some search queries for my target keywords.

Surprise surprise there are ZERO AMP page versions showing up in the top 10.

So I searched again for more queries.. and again no AMP versions are being shown..

So the net result is that I have now taken the steps to get rid of AMP…

What do I expect to see?

Over the next 4 or 5 days I expect to see the AMP page indexed status going down in Google.

I don’t expect to see any changes to my non amp pages… although hoping that these may show up for queries and will generate BETTER conversion rates.

Several people reported poorer site conversions after implementing AMP.

Now.. this doesn’t necessarily mean AMP is bad..

It means that to get the most out of it, you need to put a lot more into it… and if you have the resources then it would be a good thing.

For me however.. at this stage of things I don’t feel AMP will help.. it certainly hasn’t been my case for now.

I already have a very fast loading website, with fast hosting, image compression, a fast clean coded responsive theme and for me it feels like that is enought to provide a good fast user experience.

Down the line, if I set up an ecommerce site or news site, I may well re-visit AMP and put in the resources to make sure AMP looks just as good as the non AMP pages of my site.

Resources meaning funds to employ AMP designers and coders to make the AMP versions look just as sweet as the beautiful main website.

So for now.. watch this space.. and I will update as things progress!

Golden Ticket Review – By Me – The Course Creator 22 Feb 2019 11:17 PM (6 years ago)

Hi guys, so this is the first ever “real” and “proper” course I have ever created, and I couldn’t have done it without a couple of good friends and well known internet Marketers (Paul Nicholls, and Anthony Mancuso).  This review of “Golden Ticket” is as honest as it gets because it is my own personal course.

Please watch the video below for an overview of what the course is about and below I will provide more information.

Get Golden Ticket right here on February 28th at 10am EST

Let me tell you what’s in the course, and let me explain the good things about it, and some of the things that could have been better.

Golden ticket is a 14 video course that shows you (with proof) how I built (and stil maintain) a website that went from zero to over $1400 a month within 6 months… and it stayed around that mark for well over a year, even though I almost completely neglected the website by being too busy with my offline gardening and lawn care business.

Each video ranges anywhere from 12 minutes up to 45 minutes in length.

The good bits:

The not so good bits:

Honestly, I am really pleased with the course and have literally poured out all I know to make this.. but..

Google changes things often.

So the 14 videos start out by discussing:

So what else is there to say except go here and purchase your copy of my course and you too can be earnbing 4 figures a month within 6 months.

I promise that if you work hard and put in the effort you will get the same rewards I did when I set my site up and got it to 4 figures a month.

Something exciting coming 28th February 2019 & traffic update 3 Feb 2019 4:58 AM (6 years ago)

Hi guys, so on the 28th February I will be releasing a new course alongside 2 well known internet marketers.  The course is literally a mind-dump of the stuff I know.

For a quick recap, I started a niche website at the back of 2016 and within a year it was earning $1000+ per month.

What took it to that point was literally the mindset of “knuckle down and write write write”…

That income was GREAT and it stayed GREAT for about 12 months.. then it became not so great.

The lesson learned was one that said “don’t slack off writing”…

During that downturn I thought I had made it.  I thought I could ignore the site and focus on my offline established business that Ive been running for 6 years (lawn care).  So that’s what I did, and it bit me right on the back side!

It went down and down and down to a fifth of what it was earning, yes that’s around $200 a month.

So whats the crack now then eh Shaun?

As of today I’m in the same position.

Although I have switched my focus MASSIVELY onto the website and pouring out all I can to get it back up.

I COULD simply write a tonne more content and wait 3 to 6 months, for sure…  but because I have over 40 pieces of premium content on the site Ive been working to try and get those pieces of content to do well again, and that’s where I’m at right now.

Here is what I have observed the past few months while trying things…

Here are the overall site stats since inception at the back end of 2016

Stats only showing from mid 2017 as Id not got the stats plugin installed before then.

Traffic stats for amazon site

For most of 2018 I was getting on average 10,000 to 12,000 visitors per month.

Now it’s more like 151 per day or 4500 visitors per month.

latest web visitor stats

So while Ive spent weeks trying to understand whats happened Ive also noted a few other things.

I was running a scholarship program for 2 years running, and this gained me dozens of .edu links, which I believe was why I had the good traffic.

I eventually closed the program down believing Google was not liking scholarship programs and with the advent of time, the links pointing to my site would have slowly dwindled away, meaning less importance on my site and less rankings…

This then leads me to think that more link building needs to come into play.  As there are now financial constraints due to there being less money (and my offline business is slow in Winter), I haven’t been able to pursue this line at all.

Instead I have been looking at and trying out other things that can help somewhat, things that cost nothing financially:

TRYING TO DO ALL OF THIS ALL WHILE RUNNING AN OFFLINE BUSINESS IS QUITE DIFFICULT.

I get lost in the sea of all the things that need to be done, things that go wrong and feel overwhelmed with it all, so the net result is very little gets done in the way of progress.

So a clear list of “to do” items is essential if I am to recover.

My to-do list:

That’s it in it’s most simplest of forms, but I look at that list and see a lot of expense in terms of time and money.

So, as I work through these, and try to incorporate new “thoughts” about what works (Stuff I read about from other marketers) into my content, I realize that money and time are needed to help me get back on top.  Ideally I want to be trying to attract a lot more links, or look at setting up the scholarship again, and then producing a tonne more content.

The last 16 months for my website:

web stats for my website last 16 months

Looking at the above statistics you can see what I am saying tallies up with parts of the graph.

Around May 2018 it was at a peak (I then went crazy with my offline business treating lawns from spring to winter), so I neglected the site.. less content being made and a scholarship program being stopped all had some part to play I think.

So I believe that by simply doing the following I can get things back up:

I will also be using a new structure shortly that moves AWAY from using keywords AND focuses more on topics…

One more thing I have identified while looking at my site CTR.

CTR of website

I can honestly say that I have NEVER massively changed TITLES and META DESCRIPTIONS of my posts  in all the time I have been running the website.

The only thing I HAVE DONE is that I have actively seeked to remove YEARS from my post titles…  I did this thinking that it was a pain in the backside to have to update all the posts each year.

So one thing I am going to do immediately is to update all my posts again so the year is shown in the titles…  I will feed back on how this pans out.   Hoping to see much BETTER click through rates.

So on to my course:

My SEO course outlines every last thing I did to get to over $1000 per month.  It covers every single step.

It is for anyone with a little bit of knowledge of WordPress and SEO, although I do cover how to set up wordpress, hosting, domain names etc  so anyone can take advantage.

Watch this space as I will be keeping you guys updated on how the recovery goes so that you can do the same if your site ever hits a lull period.

How To Write The Perfect Blog Post 30 Sep 2018 1:00 AM (7 years ago)

Hi, do you want to learn how to start blog writing and create a blog post that goes beyond all your expectations?

I’ve written this in depth guide in the hope that it helps you out.

(There is also a 23 minute video further down if you would rather watch me demonstrate how to do this)

how to write the perfect blog post

Writing the perfect blog post is something more and more people are trying to make sure they do properly.  You can’t just put 500 or 1000 words up and hope for the best.  You need to take special attention to content length and answering the users question thoroughly.

When you also include links to useful resources, helpful pictures and video’s you are making the content a much more valuable resource that people will want to come back to and even share.

I’m sure you would be more than happy if your 5000 word content got shared 400 times (and gave you dozens of powerful backlinks)

In this ultimate guide to writing a blog post that is as close to perfect as possible, I am going to be sharing all I know, such as the following:

“Aaahhh… If only typing away at your keyboard was a simple process..”

We would all be multi millionaires, sipping cocktails under a palm tree in the Maldives.

If it were that easy, many people would be great at it, and sitting on the beaches… then the beaches would be crowded, and industry might grind to a halt if everyone was good at it.

Well that just isn’t going to happen.

To create great content requires a little bit of structure.

I will quickly tell you where I come from.

Ive written for over 10 years, professionally writing sales letters for a few marketers over the years.  Since that I have gone on to write for myself, for this blog, and for other websites I used to manage.

Nowadays it’s pretty much just 2 blogs.  This one, and one more.

During the last 2.5 years Ive been intensely working on my other site and trying things out.

Everything changes, and often, but the basic workings of writing good content stays pretty much the same.

Sound good?

OK.. so where do we start?

An overview, then a breakdown, if that’s ok

If only it were that simple.. be great wouldn’t it, huh.

I could end this article here if you could truly see this.

Truth is, if you can really go way out of your way and massively over deliver in helping your reader(s) with the answer to their question you will be walking the right path.

So, bear that in mind, because it is THE MOST IMPORTANT thing you will ever need to remember.

Let’s say, someone types into Google:

“How can I improve my golf swing?”

Most people would agree that the best way to learn anything is to be shown.

For example, you and a coach are on a golf Green.

Coach shows you the right stance, grip and swing and where to cast your eyes.

You make an attempt and the coach will talk you through your work and offer suggestions to help improve.

Now for many of us, this isn’t an option, but what we can do is turn this into a blog post.

(be sure to watermark the pics and videos with your brand).

That is helping someone out.. and that is good content… and that is answering someones question.

Video demonstration of writing the perfect blog post

How not to write a blog post:

Carrying on the above example, the wrong way to write the blog post would be something along the lines of:

To improve your swing you need to up your fitness, turn sideways and keep arms straight.  Then go buy this ebook on proper technique (and pay me a 5% commission).  You’ll also need these gloves (inserting your affiliate link), this cap (and your link again) etc. and so on.

Is this helping your customer?

Well yes, but you are asking them to take more steps to get to where they want, and they will grow tired.. and many people are now wary of obvious affiliate links.

So, the user came to YOUR site “for the answer”.

So you need to strive to deliver useful content that over-delivers.

Plus, Google knows from your site metrics that you’re not really being super helpful, and they give you a ranking drop, as a reward.

So when you really sit back and think about it.. you need to serve other selflessly before thinking about yourself.

Content length that converts

This changes frequently.  Just a few months back people were expressing that your content should be at least 2400 words long.

Note that just a few years ago you could get away with 500 word blog posts.. and you could pay someone to write 100 of those posts for $5 each.. now a good writer can cost you $500 for one excellent article.

How times have changed, and for the better.

This blog post from Neil Patel explains why blog posts should be at least 3000 words long.

It all makes sense.

A Youtube video from Income school explains that out of his 50 best performing blog posts,  all of them were over 4000 words in length.

Coincidence?

I think not.

So,…  do not think that you MUST write 4000 or more words for every last post.

You SHOULD think that you have to thoroughly answer the searchers question, no matter how many words it takes.

If this is done properly with 500 words then so be it, if it takes 20,000 words to provide all the facts then so be it.

People want the full picture.

So, any given topic will talk about the topic itself.  But a thoroughly researched topic will also mention things that are closely related to the main topic.

For example if we are talking about Pink Golf hats, we would discuss these, show images of pro golfers wearing them and talk about their costs, materials used and which are the best brands.

BUT we would also include topics that are “very closely related” so we embody the whole topic.

For example we would also discuss:

You can find ideas for these other terms in places such as:

Google suggest (at the bottom of a Google search):

using googles related searches to get keyword ideas
Type your search term in, and scroll to the bottom of a Google search to see these related terms. You can write about these related terms too.

Or using the likes of Lsi Graph

using lsi graph to find lsi terms to include in your content
This free tool called Lsi graph will help you create the fully pictured blog post you need to succeed

Or even Answerthepublic.com.

using answerthepublic.com to help you write fully rounded blog posts
Answerthepublic.com – see what real people are asking for, and use this to find the right words to write about.

If you want to know what sort of topics you should be including then think about related keywords, and LSI keywords.

When you perform a Google search you can see at the very bottom “people also searched for”… this will give you ideas for related topics.

You can use tools such as LSI Graph to find ideas for semantically related keywords and try to write about those subjects within your content.

Just be the BEST and be better than anyone else with what you write.

So, let’s move on to the title and the opening bits..

The title has to make people stop what they are doing and want to find out more..

The Google searcher has a split second to make a decision.

Google serve up several listings, and the user looks at them..

What they click on comes down to your headline/title.

So all you want to do is get them to click to your site..

How?

WRONG:

10 ways to lose weight

BETTER:

How I lost 14 pounds in 10 days using this one exercise

BETTER STILL:

127 of us have tried this, and we have all lost at least 14 pounds in 10 days.  This is about to open up peoples’ eyes to weight loss.

Did you read it, did you get it?

Did you think “I want to know what this is!!!“..

Curiosity is spiked.. that’s your job when crafting headlines.. nothing else.

For the first few paragraphs you need to give a very brief overview of your blog post.

It could be done through paragraphs or bullet points (You’ll notice that this article you are reading has a few bullet points`which tells you what you will learn).

What we have done at this point is to encourage readers to carry on reading.

But how, Shaun?  You’ve just given it all away in the first few lines, why would they carry on?

Simple.

People have a very very short attention span these days.

They want the facts and they want it fast.

If they can’t understand the topic in the first 30 seconds or so they will click the back button (thinking “this is boring”).

So we’ve given them a taster of the article, and if they truly want to know more they will now be keen to read on.  They KNOW with all certainty that this article WILL give them the answer.

So now let’s move on to the main part of your post.

How to structure your content

With any luck you will have captured the users interest – enough for them to read on.

I find that it is useful to jot down on a piece of paper, or on a text file on your computer, a list of main points you want to cover.

Put them into some sort of logical order.  When happy, you can start to write the main key points for each of the points you wrote down.

As you write, you don’t want to just write a large block of text.

How to make your content scannable

Quite simply, imagine that your whole post is a story..but the subheadings outline each part of the story..

So, what I am trying to say is, you want to be able to scroll down and “only” read the subheadings.. and STILL be able to get a general feeling for what the article is about.

So, someone should be able to read each subheading, scroll down and at the end they will have understood the outline of your article.

Why would people do this?

Well, not everyone has time to read the whole thing.

Other people aren’t looking for all of the information.  They may already know a lot of what you are writing about, but might be looking for a particular nugget of information that they have been trying to find..

With subheadings you can point out the the reader “hey, here’s that nugget you were looking to find..”

Linking to useful resources

So, here’s a back to front way of thinking…

Instead of thinking about you, and how you can make money out of this blog post, switch it round and think how you can help the reader.

In fact go further still and over-deliver.  If you find a website who has some brilliant information on your topic why not link to it.  The reader will appreciate it.

Once you’ve truly and selflessly helped the reader get their solution, you can then add in your “money maker” whatever that may be (joining your mailing list or buying your ebook etc.) – just be 100% sure you “GIVE” first.

The key takeaway here is NOT to hit the reader with your affiliate links as fast as humanly possible and as many times as possible.

It’s called “time on page”.

Bummer hey!

But that’s life, and that’s the business we are in.

Help others first, and over deliver.

Is blog writing profitable?

There is no doubt about it, blog writing can make as much or as little money as you can imagine.

I know several people who are very wealthy using just these strategies.

Over to you

I hope you’ve reached this point and picked up some nuggets?  let me know.  I’m human and genuinely trying to help you out.

How to make £50 fast 22 Sep 2018 4:51 AM (7 years ago)

Need some extra money like in the next few days and not sure what to do?
We’ve all been there, so don’t worry.

This article is all about making FAST money.. money you need in a hurry.

We want to show you some fab ways of making around £50 in the next few days.

Shall we dive right in?

Method 1:

Use a spare room in your house to earn money.

If you have spare room at your home, or you perhaps have a converted garage or barn that can comfortably sleep people then why not use it to make you some fast money.

make up to £1000 a month with airbnb

Start off by going to AirBnB (this is the link to the AirBnB website) and sign up.

It is possible to earn pretty much a full time income from this method right from the start.

Unfortunately there is no REAL guarantee you will earn money in the next few days, but if you have any one or more of these opportunities all around you, you might as well put to action as many of your chances as you can and hopefully some of them will pay off.

So you will need to create a listing for your room.  Upload pictures, and about you and set your prices realistic.

If the price is cheaper initially compared to others you may get the business quicker (and if you give the guests a good experience, nice room, perhaps breakfast included, you might get a good review and lead on to more business).

Method 2:

Sell old items or items you hardly ever use

This method is perhaps one of the most reliable as there are always bargain hunters out there.

Start off by gathering your old bits and bobs.  Think furniture, baby clothes, toys, xbox games etc.

You can get good money for furniture but more like £1 an item for other bits.  If you are realistic you will do much better.

You could rent a stall at a car boot or sunday market and theres every chance you will make £20 to £50.

Alternatively you can head over to Facebook and join one of the many “buying and selling” groups.

Here’s how:

In the Facebook search, start out by typing “things for sale in Doncaster (put your own area instead of Doncaster)”…

Click on one of the groups and find where it says join groupsearching facebook to find groups to post into

You will see many groups you can join.  Just click the join button.

joining facebook groups by pressing join

Join quite at least 4 or 5 groups.  The ones with plenty of members (for example of 5000) will give you a better response rate.

Facebook will tell you once the group has approved your request to join.

Then simply write a description of what you are selling and add a picture.

If your price is fair then with any luck you will get a sale.  Remember that people always try to negotiate so start out pricing a bit higher!

Additionally try any of the local pawn shops, or Gold shops, or you can even pop your items onto Gumtree.

Method 3:

Work a few hours

Perhaps not what you want to hear but there are often times when someone needs a pair of hands for a few hours or a day or even a few days.

You can find gardeners who need a help for a big job, cleaners who need help when they’re too busy, landscaping companies who need hired labour (in other words doing all the donkey work carrying stuff to and from the van to site etc.).

It’s worth asking a question in one of the Facebook buying and selling groups along the lines of:

“Hi, hope this is ok, but does any one have any spare work available for just a few hours or couple of days?”

Quite often people will reply mentioning a person who is looking, or they may know of a job going in a local bar or shop for example.

Other ways to do some work include:

Method 4:

Re-sell a freebie or bargain

If you see something listed on eBay or Gumttee that is being given away, or even sold for a ridiculously cheap price, snap it up and see if you can re-sell it on to the local pawn shops.

I have personally seen numerous computer chairs that are listed on eBay for a 99p start price and don’t get any bids.  You simply wait and put in a 99p bid 10 seconds before the end of the auction.  You can re-sell this on Facebook for £5 or £15 even before you’ve been to pick it up!  We have successfully done this a few times.

Years ago I used to buy and sell Sony playstations (back the it was the PS1).  I’d scour the Saturday free newspapers called “ad-mag” at 7am and call people up at 8am..   I’d pop rouind to look at one and offer them a price a bit cheaper..  then I would be re-listing the same console back on Ad-mag the next week for £20 more.  Do this a few times a week and there’s your money.)

NOTE:  You sometimes see people giving stuff away for free on facebook to help out those less fortunate. I don’t recommend you ask for the freebie (saying you have nothing in your house), unless you have no morals.

For FAST CASH, these are some of the most realistic ways I believe can help you get to that extra £50 in the next few days.

There are countless other ways to make money slower and which will increase, but they don’t belong here.

If you try one of these tips, please comment below and let me know how you got on, and if you managed to get the the extra £50 you needed!

A review of the last 12 months earning money with Amazon 25 Feb 2018 1:25 AM (7 years ago)

Hey guys.

I was just looking through my Amazon affiliate account this morning and it’s a nice feeling to look back and see money being earned month in month out (touch wood.. without fail)…

Pretty much 12 months ago is when the first trickles of money started to come in from my efforts.

The site was started in the latter stages of 2016, and I knew at the time the site would not really earn anything for quite some time.  anyway.. it took a good 5 or so months before the site gained some traffic and then sales from that traffic.  The first earnings transferred to my account at the end of February 2017 was £29.28.

That was 12 months ago.

20017 to 2018 earnings amazon

Since that time the site increased month on month for the next 4 or so months reaching an average monthly earning in the range of £750 to £1000 roughly and it has been that way ever since.

How to increase Amazon affiliate earnings

I mean it’s nice and all that to have money coming in, and I’m not about to knock it or complain about it.. but well my site earnings hasn’t really gone up since then  it’s kind of just plateaued around the same amount.

Nice but could be a lot better.

The issue here is “me”.. (once again!!)…  12 MONTHS AGO I KNUCKLED DOWN AND ROLLED UP MY SLEEVES.

I wrote and wrote and wrote almost 20 articles..

Then I got “lazy”, sat back and watched the money come in..

BUT. I wasn’t actually being lazy..

I was doing a number of other things.

I have been making all of my pages follow a similar layout (still working on it actually)… a layout that I feel converts quite well…  so before adding a lot of content I want to get the “best converting layout” sorted in my head and then move forward with content..

That’s been the plan.

At the same time I’ve had to use all my Amazon earnings to pay for a holiday and will be doing up to April  so I can’t reinvest into the site.. bit annoying but 2 of my kids have never been on a plane (long story)..  so it’s a special holiday..

Plans for 2018 to 2019 to earn money with Amazon

I quickly deduced that if 20 articles earns say £800 a month, 200 articles has the potential for a much higher income.  Theoretically you might assume that 10 times the articles = 10 times the traffic and 10 times the money ie £8000 a month but even if I can get to a third or half of that I will be happy.

So my plans are time get more content written.. “up to” 200 articles written this year.

I’m going to be outsourcing a lot of it.

I’d love to have 200 articles all beautifully crafted like my own articles.  Well researched and length 5000+ word articles but with the content costs being around £150 each that’s a lot of change to find!  £30,000 to be precise.

I’ve not yet decided whether to stick to “what’s working” and keep the quality at it’s best, or to adopt another approach I’ve read up on that a fellow well known marketer uses.

This approach is to have articles written around 1000 words each.  (costs can be done for around £30 each).  Then in the coming months look at the articles that are becoming popular and build them right out to mega articles.

The cost for this effort would be around £6000.

The other marketer did just this and the income to his site ballooned impressively to a very good 4 figures a month over £4000.  I’d be very happy with it.

My deliberations on this method:

Would doing this weaken my sites quality content score (if there is such a thing).. as now each article is smaller.. could this knock on to produce lower rankings or less trust factor from Google… ???

all these questions!

OR… on the flip side.. adding regular content in my mind would please Google.. so that could be favourable  (and past experience does seem to corroborate this)…   8 years ago I had 50 sites… did “ok”.. then I started paying writers and had 20 to 30 articles a month written and the income shot up to almost £1000 a month very quickly…  so as long as the quality is good in the articles I have produced, then this method might prove good.

Or do I simply have long 5000 word articles produced but we would then end up with far fewer????  I’d estimate around 40 articles for the same money (£6000 spent over 6 months)…

Well…  not every one of my current articles produces good money.. one doesn’t even rank, so £150 a time for a poor performer isn’t a good use of money.  Only 2 or 3 serve most of the site sales  and the rest are somewhere in between..  so the first method is now becoming a little more favourable…  write a lot.. find the golden nuggets and then expand those out.

The only caveat with this approach.. is that I have read online you should get rid of poor performing posts..   so it would mean that every 3 to 6 months I should look at the posts with no traffic and see if there is any way to increase their rankings by building out the pages with more content…  or delete them if the topic is somehow to competitive.

So that’s my musings up to now…  and I’ve outlined how I intend to work the site this year.

What’s your plans, and do you ave any questions?

Amazon affiliate earnings update November 2017 28 Nov 2017 11:14 AM (7 years ago)

So, another month has passed and earnings continue to come in.  This month has been interesting and eventful.  Le me explain.

What’s been happening?

At the start of the month I had felt a bit disheartened.  Not that the fact I am still earning good money but because I hadn’t seen any noticeable increases for about 4 months.  In fact it’s dipped at times.

I had spent time trying to investigate reasons why…

I looked at:

Not posting enough content (been a number of weeks).

Not working to try and attract links by making link-worthy content.

I looked at the current links to my site and did see a number of new domains linking.

Spam links

I was getting  a few dozen links from low quality websites.. basically negative seo.

Do I engage the “enemy” and work to get those links removed or disavowed by the Google disavow tool, or do I just ignore them and continue to work on the website.

Well.. I’ve not taken any action so far to remove them.

I’ve since worked to get content that people will link to.  I’ve also managed to get a few links from “.edu” websites from a scholarship programme I am offering (yes, a real one at that).

I’ve read at least 6 or 7 of the top 10 results relating to the Google disavow tool and it seems it can take many many months and even then there is no guarantee the links will be disavowed.  That’s just how I’ve read it.  I really hope I am wrong.

So instead of working on ignoring the spammy links, I’m hoping Google understands the nature of a spam link and when they link to my site.

Instead I have “for now” focused on acquiring high quality links and ensuring my content is up to date, relevant and on topic.

.Edu links

I’ve been working to get .edu links to a page on my site that offers a scholarship.  It’s the 2nd time I have done this.  Since contacting a few hundred educational establishments I have seen in the past 2 weeks a VERY good increase of traffic (it’s more than doubled) and this has pushed the earnings up too.

If you didn’t know, .edu and .gov websites are very trusted by Google so if you can get a link from one of these sites it can help your rankings in Google.

Nice

Now we are in the final few weeks before Christmas (here in the Uk), and along withe Black Friday and Cyber Monday I have seen a healthy increase in the earnings.  Of course, in my heart I secretly want it to keep going up and up (who wouldn’t!)

It will be interesting to see if earnings remain strong after Christmas, thanks to the recent new links.

So, I am writing this on the 27th November 2017 so far I have surpassed last months earnings (just under the £800 mark for the month so far), but there are almost 40 items that haven’t been dispatched by Amazon yet, so the earnings from those haven’t yet been added.  I am looking forward to seeing how much this equates to.

Will be nice to clear £1000 for November.

For the next few weeks I am going to continue to push my scholarship offer to educational places and see how much further the graph can climb upwards… Below are a few screenshots.

Keep on pushing your site.

amazon affiliate earnings nov 2017 traffic stats

Seeing above you can see how things have turned upwards the past few weeks.

Is that from xmas or the link strategy..

Let me know below how you are getting on.

Shaun
