Craven County SNAP benefits may face disruption soon 12:26 PM (one minute ago)

NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) -- Craven County Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program(SNAP) recipients may see a disruption in benefits starting in November.

Due to the ongoing federal government funding lapse, the U.S. Department of Agriculture has warned states that federal funding for Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) benefits, including the SNAP program, formerly known as food stamps, may not be available in November. This may result in a reduction in the level of benefits or full cessation of benefits until funding is restored.

The Craven County Department was not involved in the decisions leading to the potential disruption in benefits. Questions about benefits should be directed to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services at (800)-662-7030.

Craven County does not have any alternative benefit programs; however, there are numerous food pantries in Craven County.

Here is a list of some food pantries below:

Additionally, residents are encouraged to view Craven County’s Community Resource Guide at
https://www.cravencountync.gov/2227/Community-Resource-Guide. This guide serves as a directory for information on community health resources and includes food pantry information.
Craven County understands the importance of these benefits, and we will share updates as soon as additional guidance is available.

For more information on FNS benefits and federal shutdown impacts, visit www.ncdhhs.gov/fns
