Kaveri University, October 16: Kaveri University marked World Mental Health Day with an inspiring Mental Health Awareness Programme under the initiative “Thrive @ KU – Connect, Reflect, Grow,” conceptualized by Dr. Nida Fatima Hazari. The programme aims to nurture mental resilience and holistic well-being among students through mindfulness, emotional expression, and community engagement.
The session began with a warm address by Prof. V. Praveen Rao, Vice-Chancellor of Kaveri University, who highlighted the vital role universities play in fostering both intellectual and emotional growth. He encouraged students to prioritize self-care, empathy, and mental wellness as integral parts of their academic journey.
Following this, Ms. Zara Ahmed Siddiqui, psychologist and lifestyle expert from Hyderabad, shared insightful guidelines on wellness, emphasizing that mental health is not a luxury but a necessity. She highlighted the importance of early care and community support in fostering resilience, setting the tone for an afternoon centered on empathy, self-awareness, and reflection.

Azharuddin, Dr. Nida Fatima Hazari, and senior officials join hands to raise awareness among students at Little Flower High School, Hyderabad
Hyderabad: The message was clear and heartfelt — “Speed thrills, but kills.” At a moving and educative event held at Little Flower High School, Abids, the Youth Against Speed campaign observed Road Safety Day, reaffirming its decade-long commitment to spreading awareness among young citizens about the life-threatening dangers of overspeeding and reckless driving.
The initiative, founded by senior politician and social activist Khaleequr Rahman in 2011 after losing his 16-year-old son Ajmal and 19-year-old nephew Ayaz in a tragic road accident on Hyderabad’s Outer Ring Road, has since become one of the city’s most consistent and compassionate voices for road safety.
This year’s observance brought together a panel of distinguished guests, including former Indian cricket captain Mohammed Azharuddin, Dr. Nida Fatima Hazari — world-renowned nutritionist, psychologist, and entrepreneur, Mr. Ajay Mishra, IAS (Retd.), former Special Chief Secretary to the Government of Telangana, Dr. Ashish Chauhan, Senior Consultant at Continental Hospital, and Mr. Shafiuddin Ajaz, noted educationist.
The guests were warmly received in a traditional manner by the school’s Principal Rev. Bro. Anthony, Ms. Deepti Jaiswal, and the students. The school campus resonated with enthusiasm as students welcomed the dignitaries holding placards promoting safe driving and responsible road behavior.
In his inaugural address, Rev. Bro. Anthony highlighted the urgent need to inculcate road safety values from a young age. “Education must go beyond textbooks — it must teach our children the value of life and the importance of care on the roads,” he said, extending his gratitude to Youth Against Speed for leading a cause rooted in compassion and public responsibility.
Taking the stage, Mohammed Azharuddin — who also lost his son Ayaz in the same accident — spoke from the heart. “Life can change in a single moment of carelessness,” he told the students. “Speed is not courage, it’s danger. True character lies in discipline, patience, and respect for life — yours and others’.” His words, filled with personal emotion, drew a silent reflection among the young audience.
Dr. Nida Fatima Hazari, a leading voice in holistic health and youth wellness, spoke about how physical and mental well-being are interconnected with responsible living. “A nutritious diet, proper sleep, and regular exercise help build focus and judgment — qualities essential not only in academics but also in daily life, including how we behave on the roads,” she said. Dr. Hazari also presented her innovative NFH Smart Plate concept, designed to promote balanced eating and healthier lifestyles among youth.
Mr. Ajay Mishra, IAS (Retd.), shared alarming national and state-level statistics on road accidents, underscoring that the majority involve young drivers. He stressed that awareness, enforcement, and empathy must work together to reduce fatalities. “Every accident avoided is a family saved from lifelong sorrow,” he remarked.
Dr. Ashish Chauhan, Senior Consultant at Continental Hospital, spoke about emergency care and the role of first responders. He emphasized the “golden hour” in saving lives and strongly advocated for the ‘No Helmet, No Petrol’ policy. “Helmets save lives — it’s not optional, it’s essential. The government must consider making this rule a nationwide mandate,” he urged.
Founder Khaleequr Rahman, visibly emotional, recalled the painful moments that led to the birth of the Youth Against Speed campaign. “I lost two young lives in my family to speed — and with them, a part of myself. No family should go through that suffering again. Through this movement, I wish to turn our grief into awareness and action,” he said.
The event concluded with the Road Safety Oath administered by Rev. Bro. Anthony, as hundreds of students pledged to follow traffic rules, wear helmets and seatbelts, never use mobile phones while driving, and act as Good Samaritans whenever they witness an accident.
For over a decade, Youth Against Speed has been a beacon of advocacy — conducting campaigns, school awareness drives, and public events across Hyderabad to foster a culture of responsibility among the youth. What began as a personal mission has now evolved into a community movement, reminding everyone that “Safety on the roads begins with you.”

New Delhi, October 6, 2025 – In a shocking breach of decorum within the hallowed halls of the Supreme Court, a 71-year-old lawyer allegedly attempted to hurl a shoe at Chief Justice of India (CJI) Justice B.R. Gavai during court proceedings today, prompting widespread outrage and swift condemnation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The incident unfolded during a routine hearing before the bench led by CJI Gavai, when lawyer Rakesh Kishore, reportedly aggrieved over the judge’s earlier remarks on a petition concerning the restoration of a Lord Vishnu idol in Madhya Pradesh’s Khajuraho temple, approached the dais. Kishore was seen trying to remove his shoe, seemingly intent on throwing it at the CJI, while shouting about perceived insults to Sanatan Dharma. Quick intervention by security personnel prevented the act from escalating further, and the lawyer was detained briefly for questioning by Delhi Police.
Unfazed, CJI Gavai maintained remarkable composure, instructing the court to proceed with the hearing without distraction. “Don’t get distracted by all this. These things do not affect me. Continue with the hearing,” he reportedly said, a display of calm that drew praise from across the political spectrum.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a strongly worded statement on X (formerly Twitter), reached out personally to the CJI to express solidarity. “Spoke to Chief Justice of India, Justice BR Gavai Ji. The attack on him earlier today in the Supreme Court premises has angered every Indian. There is no place for such reprehensible acts in our society. It is utterly condemnable,” PM Modi posted. He further commended the CJI’s poise, noting, “I appreciated the calm displayed by Justice Gavai in the face of such a situation. It highlights his commitment to values of justice and strengthening the spirit of our Constitution.”
The Prime Minister’s intervention underscores the gravity of the security lapse in one of India’s most fortified institutions, raising questions about courtroom protocols and the rising tide of intolerance in legal discourse.
The brazen attempt has ignited a firestorm of condemnation from leaders across party lines, with many viewing it not just as an assault on an individual but on the very edifice of the judiciary and the Constitution.
Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi described the episode as “an assault not just on him but on our Constitution as well,” adding, “No words are adequate to condemn the attack on the Honourable Chief Justice of India in the Supreme Court itself.” Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge echoed this sentiment, calling it “unprecedented, shameful and abhorrent.”
The Bar Council of India acted decisively, suspending Kishore’s license with immediate effect pending a full inquiry. During police questioning, the lawyer cited his dissatisfaction with CJI Gavai’s September remarks dismissing a plea for the idol’s restoration as “purely publicity interest litigation.” The CJI had quipped, “Go and ask the deity himself to do something. If you are saying that you are a strong devotee of Lord Vishnu, then you pray and do some meditation.”
No formal complaint was filed against Kishore, who was released after three hours of interrogation, but authorities have vowed a thorough probe to prevent future breaches.
This incident, coming amid ongoing debates on judicial independence and cultural sensitivities, serves as a stark reminder of the challenges facing India’s apex court. Legal experts warn that such acts erode public trust in institutions meant to uphold the rule of law.
As the nation rallies in support of CJI Gavai, PM Modi’s outreach symbolizes a unified front against violence in public life. The event has “angered every Indian,” as the Prime Minister aptly put it, demanding stricter safeguards to protect the guardians of justice.
YaHind.com will continue to monitor developments in this unfolding story. Stay tuned for updates.
