A customer I am working for just had his agave bloom and die. The seed pods are still green. He has since cut the stalk and put the part with all the pods in a bucket of water. Did he need to do this?...

This plant was in succulent/xeric section of a nursery. Leaves have a rough texture and seems to be making a trunk.
